A childless couple married for ten years has given birth to five babies, the first quintuplet birth recorded at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) in Cross River State, Nigeria.

The three boys and two girls, born between 10.50am and 10.54am on Monday, weighed between 1.45kg and 1.75kg.
They are currently in the hospital's Special Care Babies Unit and are in stable condition.
The wife of the Cross River State Governor, Dr. Linda Ayade, who was among the people who visited the new parents with this first birth of its kind, happily announced the donation of one million Naira in support of the needs of the family.
“This is a sign of good news in the state and the country at large and I want to thank the new mother for choosing the professional services of midwives,” she said.
Dr. Ayade did not only donate to the couple but also donated another 500,000 Naira to the medical experts who helped the woman deliver the babies safely.
The quintuplets' father, an emotional Dr Ekpo Edet, thanked God for answering his ten-year-old prayers, stressing that only God could have done so.
“I want to thank God almighty. He is a faithful God. For the first time in the history of Cross River State, for the first time in the history of UCTH, five at once.
"God has been faithful, we have concluded the first phase and the doctors have confirmed that the children are reacting.
“We are entering the second phase and I know it will not be easy, but I ask for the support of all kind-hearted Nigerians. All my friends and well-wishers in looking after them in this recession,” the children's father asked.
State Health Commissioner Dr Inyang Asibong congratulated the children's father, who despite all the tension and expectations during the pregnancy period remained steadfast, as it has been a long wait for the couple.
Dr. Ayade together with the state Commissioner for Health also donated an incubator machine to the hospital on behalf of the Cross River State Government.
